What does it cost to re-certify static lines and anchor points?

With the increased focus on safety, property owners, schools and building managers are increasingly turning to height safety methods such as anchor points and static lines to keep tradesmen safe at height. Uncertainty about how these devices are to be checked often leads to the mandatory re-certification not happening.

This article answers the question we often asked about how much it costs to re-certify static line and anchor point.

There are 5 main factors which alter the cost of anchor and static line re-certifications:

Where is your site?

Because the re-certification task generally takes a very small amount of time once on site, your location affects the price quite a lot. Central metro areas have ready access to qualified certifiers where rural and outlying regions tend to incur travel costs.

How many points?

Volume fixes everything. The cost of certification reduces when there is larger quantities of anchors to be certified on a site. Many property owners will also have multiple sites which you can access bulk pricing for as well.

Is access to the roof simple?

Many roofs have ready access to them via access ladders, walkways or internal access which is obviously quick and easy. If this isn’t available, the re-certification team will need to provide EWP access to the roof for the certification process which adds to the cost.

Age and certification history

To be fully compliant, roof safety systems need to be re-certified every 12 months to remain in active use. If this certification lapses, the anchors will need to be locked out and not used until they can be re-certified for use. If anchors are left without certification for 3+ years, they can require extra work, hence increasing the cost.

Engineering required?

Anchors that are too old, obsolete design, contain complex fixings, rusted or damaged may require a certified engineer to re-certify them. In many situations it may be much easier and cheaper to replace them with a new simple anchor which can be maintained simply for years to come.
